Keeping up with the theme of more healthy recipes this new year. Incorporate some high fibrous content and different grains/millets into your diet still in the form of usual dosa, idli and chapathi. Eat what you like and how you like but a few changes in the recipes makes a difference. So after dry nuts, spinach and oats in the form of dry nuts ladoo and spinach oats rava idli, today is the turn of ragi. Ragi oats dosa it is today, one more simple dosa recipe made healthy, your everyday dish!
I believe one should eat what they really like to eat and not force oneself to eat something made up for a diet. Your everyday dishes can be made healthy and yet kept simple. Use the ingredients you have on hand, plan a little and you will get a balance of all essential nutrients. Ragi oats dosa does exactly that!
I have used my basic hotel style rava dosa recipe to make this ragi oats dosa. It turns out crisp and does not require a lot of oil to roast the dosas. Very quickly you have a new recipe up your sleeve and adds to your repertoire. - ¼ Cup rolled oats
- ¼ Cup chiroti rava/small rava
- ½ Cup akki hittu/rice flour
- ½ Cup ragi hittu/ragi flour
- Salt to taste
- ½ Tsp sugar
- ¼ Tsp pepper powder
- ½ Tsp jeera
- 1" grated ginger
- 1 chopped green chilli
- 1 pinch hing
- 2 Cups water
- 1-2 finely chopped onion
- 1 Tsp oil
- ¼ Tsp mustard
- In a bowl, take the ragi flour and rice flour
- Also add chiroti rava, mix
- Powder oats into a powder and also add this to ragi mixture
- Add sugar and salt to taste
- Sprinkle hing and jeera
- Mix everything very well
- Slowly pour water and make a batter
- Add black pepper powder
- Make tadka with oil and mustard, pour over the batter
- Grate a piece of ginger and add some chopped curry leaves
- Mix everything very well, batter should be watery
- Lastly add chopped onions and chopped green chillies, mix well
- Heat a tawa, pour a ladleful of batter, spread into dosa
- Add oil, cover and cook
- Flip the dosa when underside is cooked and crisp
- Cook the other side for a few seconds
- Serve with tomato chutney or any chutney of your choice
You can also skip the onions
Dosa batter as mentioned earlier must be watery and not thick like regular dosa
Ragi Oats Dosa Stepwise:
In a bowl, take the ragi flour and rice flour
Also add chiroti rava, mix
Powder oats into a powder and also add this to ragi mixture
Add sugar and salt to taste
Sprinkle hing and jeera
Mix everything very well
Slowly pour water and make a batter
Add black pepper powder
Make tadka with oil and mustard, pour over the batter
Grate a piece of ginger and add some chopped curry leaves
Mix everything very well, batter should be watery
Lastly add chopped onions and chopped green chillies, mix well
Heat a tawa, pour a ladleful of batter, spread into dosa
Add oil, cover and cook
Flip the dosa when underside is cooked and crisp
Cook the other side for a few seconds
Serve with tomato chutney or any chutney of your choice
