Panchamrutha

Now that Shravana month/masa has started, there are festivals almost everyday. But we cannot make sweets everyday and it is not good to consume so many sweets too. Of course, we do need to offer naivedya during the pooja rituals and what better than a simple yet wholesome ‘Panchamrutha’. Before I write a whole lot I would like clarify that there are many ways in which people make Panchamrutha but this is one way we make at home.
It is about the balance of all ingredients, the 5 nectars , milk, curd, sugar, ghee and honey. Kids and adults alike like this and it is one of the things we used to look forward to during festivals and on visit to temples. It is just a beautiful thing to wait for as the flavours develop as it sits. Panchamrutha is just so satisfying and the sweetness makes your digestive juices to start working before the big meal!


There are a couple of things to keep in mind. Ensure to use ripe bananas and also make sure the curd/yogurt is not sour. Also we optionally add a small tip of edible camphor/pachha karpoora, it makes it really fresh and fragrant (but ensure it is just a small tip, you should hardly be able to see it). So make Panchamrutha for the next festival and offer it as naivedya!

Sweet nectar as naivedya, panchamrutha with bananas and a balance of ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1½ Cups fresh full cream/whole milk
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1 Tsp sugar
  • 1-2 Tsp honey
  • ½ Tsp ghee
  • 1 Tbsp curd/yogurt
  • 1 small pinch edible camphor/pachha karpoora (optional)
Method
  1. Chop the bananas finely and add them into a bowl
  2. Sprinkle sugar
  3. Next add honey and ghee
  4. Pour the curd/yogurt
  5. Also pour the milk
  6. Mix everything well till incorporated
  7. Add a small pinch of edible camphor/pachha karpoora
  8. Mix well
  9. Offer as naivedya and then serve by spoonfuls
Notes
Ensure to use ripe bananas (big bananas work well)

Edible camphor/pachha karpoora is optional, add very sparingly

Ensure the curd/yogurt is not sour but fresh and sweet

Panchamrutha Stepwise:
Chop the bananas finely and add them into a bowl

Next add honey and ghee
 
Pour the curd/yogurt

Also pour the milk

Mix everything well till incorporated

Add a small pinch of edible camphor/pachha karpoora

Mix well

Offer as naivedya and then serve by spoonfuls
