Mango Saasme

Saasme relate to mosaru raitha (curd raitha) in many ways. But the unique and fragrant blend of a light coconut masala makes saasme a stand-out dish. Just as in this unique flavour combo with mango pulp mixed with simple coconut masala which is then mixed into whisked yogurt. It makes a wonderfully tasty side dish, mango saasme.
Saasme are wonderful dishes to cool things of a bit. It aids in digestion and are very very tasty. They can be eaten just on their own or best eaten mixed with rice towards the end of a meal. Mango saasme is heavenly with a bowl of rice.

I learnt this recipe years ago from a family friend and have been making this every year during mango season. I can polish of a big bowl of this mango-yogurt mango saasme goodness! The flavours are well balanced but of course mango dominating the flavours. Mango saasme or maavinahannina saasme comes from the land of Uttara Karnataka where making saasme are traditional and a must with everyday meals.
I have added raisins to make it extra special. Make sure mango pulp is not sour.
