First of all, I would like to say that I am back from a brief hiatus from blogging after my maternity break. So, to start with a simple recipe for new mothers. A quick stir fry is what is sometimes required to lift the flavours in a meal. I would say it is only second to a spicy chutney to make as an accompaniment to cleanse the palate. And it would be even better if the stir fry is nutritious like this sabsige soppu stir fry! All it needs is some sweetly toasted garlic and sabsige soppu stir fry is ready in no time at all.
Dill leaves or sabsige soppu has a beautiful fennel/sompu like taste which is used as a herb in many cuisines. In our beautiful state, Karnataka, sabsige soppu is used on its own to make sabsige soppu dal, sabsige soppu kadubu, sabsige soppu chapathi. This stir fry is super tasty on its own and if you pair it with fresh steamed rice and little ghee, it makes for a great accompaniment.
While choosing sabsige soppu always ensure it is fresh, nice dark green and leaves should feel hard and not velvetty. Just ensure it is well grown but does not have any yellowing leaves. With this in mind, if you buy sabsige soppu your sabsige soppu stir fry will turn out really tasty. While toasting garlic, always do it on low flame and ensure it does not brown. You want sweet tasting garlic and not browned bitter pieces of garlic. Sabsige soppu stir fry is said to be very good for lactating moms as it increases milk production.
Make this with menasina saaru, and the combination is too good!
