Karum Kurum churmuri, a low calorie snack to enjoy in the monsoon
06/25/2019 9:29:53 PM vindhyadesai
Tea time has arrived in my home and it is raining outside. What’s the first thing that comes to your mind? Onion pakoda? But sometimes you don’t feel like having something oily and it’a lot of work isn’t it? Ok ok, question session is over, let’s go make some karum karum churmuri or masala puri (don’t confuse with the masala/e puri chaat).
When I was thinking of a one-line summary for churmuri I had to put ‘karum kurum’ in it. That has to be the best way to describe it, there is no other way to it, in my opinion. There are certain things which have no words in any dictionary and you have to describe it just the way it looks or sounds. Just go by your instincts 🙂 ... “Churmuri | Murmuri | Masala Puri | Snack Recipes”
Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, tea-time special, baalekayi bajji

Winter is almost over for many of us in the Northern hemisphere. But still the cold lingers on and one feels like eating something chatpata or crisp at tea time. What better than these crisp baalekayi bajji or raw banana fries/fritters. They are crisp, slightly chatpata and soft on the inside.
A simple batter made with besan and a little rice flour to render crispiness. Then a few simple masalas are added which add the right amount of seasoning. Thin slices of raw banana are dunked into the coating batter and deep fried in oil. A snack ready, in no time at all either for a lazy Sunday afternoon or for tea-time on weekdays! ... “Baalekayi Bajji | Raw Banana Fritters | Snack Recipes”

Tubers such as sweet potato, cassava are so underrated. So few takers for these ancient vegetables. But then there is aloo (potato) which came to India through Portuguese about 300 years ago. But we have always had other tubers and root vegetables. These are infact our staples providing essential nutrition in the form of carbohydrates and fibre. So I have come back with a North Karnataka special recipe sihi genasu or sweet potato sweet, translated literally!
Although sweet potatoes look hard they cook very quickly. They have so much taste in them that not much is required to make a nice dish out of it. As with North Karnataka cuisine, we always have simple dishes just like the simple people from the region. Few ingredients and sihi genasu or sweet potato sweet is ready. Melt in the mouth, fragrant and favourite, kesar elaichi peda
10/30/2018 8:42:58 PM vindhyadesai
As a kid I was always fascinated by big sweet shops. The idea of tasty, succulent sweets all lined up behind a counter makes one drool isn’t it? I have always loved pedas, there are all shapes of pedas, round, square, oval or random shaped. And the flavours, simply superb, kesar, badam, kaju, pista, elaichi, gulab and what not. The best ones for me are the elaichi peda or kesar elaichi peda with a distinct peda stamp/chaap.
Kesar elaichi peda is a standard when it comes to Indian sweets. The shape, the texture and the taste, all of it a perfect combination. Whether from bakeries, sweet stalls or from milk parlours (how many of you buy kesar elaichi peda from Nandini shops in Karnataka?) ... “Kesar Elaichi Peda | Kesar Peda | Sweet Recipes”
