An easy and traditional way of celebrating festivals is by making some kind of kheer/payasa. Seviyaan kheer is one of the most commonly made kheer. If you are looking for an easy kheer/payasa recipe then you have arrived at the right place. Sabudana kheer is suitable for fasting or vrats.
Sabudana kheer is one of the easiest sweets to make and is ready without a lot of effort. The only thing to keep in mind is to get the thickness of this kheer/payasa to the right consistency.
We also call sabudana kheer as MaNi payasa in Kannada owing to the pearl like texture of sabudana. Sabudana is made from tapioca root and is one of the staples during fasting or vrats.

- ¼ Cup sabudana
- 1 Cup milk
- 3-4 Tbsp sugar
- 2-3 powdered elaichi
- Few strands of saffron/kesari (optional)
- Few chopped cashews (optional)
- 2 Tbsp raisins (optional)
- Take sabudana in a bowl
- Next sabudana pearls need to be washed in water till it runs clear
- Soak sabudana in water(nearly 2 cups) for half an hour. They will turn soft
- Boil in same water till sabudana turn translucent
- Next add 1 cup milk, mix well
- Add sugar (3-4 tbsp) and mix well
- Sprinkle elaichi powder and mix well
- Few saffron/kesari strands can go in
- Switch off flame, add chopped cashews, add raisins
- Serve warm or chilled
Sweetness of sabudana kheer can also be adjusted. Add 1 more Tbsp of sugar if you prefer it sweeter
Make it with cashew milk if you want it be vegan
Sabudana Kheer Stepwise:
Take sabudana in a bowl
