You have a nice and juicy musk melon (kharbooja/kharbooj) and do not know what to make with it? Try making a creamy milkshake and serve it chilled. It can also be made into a juice (panaka) generally made during Ram Navami festival. Musk melon is a species of melon with many varieties like cantaloupe, honey dew. These fruits are very flavourful and are very pulpy. They are a rich source of Vitamin A and very rich in natural juices because most of the melon is water. I had a Galia musk melon(scales like skin). In India, Cantaloupe variety is generally available (distinctive longitudinal lines). Both taste very similar
- ½ musk melon (200 Gm approx with outer layer and seeds)
- 1 medium sized ripe banana
- 1-2 Tsp honey
- 2 Cups semi-skimmed or whole milk
- 2 Scoops vanilla ice cream
- To ready the melon, scoop out the seeds using a small spoon. Run a knife round the pulp and the hard peel of the melon. An easy way to get all the pulp out of the melon is to scoop it out using a small spoon
- Slice up the banana
- In a blender, add scooped out melon, banana, add honey
- Add milk, blend everything well till smooth
- Add vanilla icecream. Blend till smooth and frothy and creamy
- Serve chilled
I usually do not add sugar to any milkshakes, smoothies or juices. Add sugar according to your taste
Double the ingredients if making for more people
I prefer not to add ice as it will dilute the milkshake. Add a few if you like it cold or chill the melon pulp after scooping it out
