Dalia Khichdi | Broken Wheat Khichdi | Godhuma Khichdi

Warm, fibrous, loaded with veggies - dalia khichdi
Ingredients
  • ⅔ cup bulgur wheat or daliya/broken wheat
  • ½ cup hesru bele/mung dal
  • ½ Tsp turmeric
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 sprigs chopped coriander
  • ¼ Cup fresh grated coconut
  • ½ Tbsp butter
  • 1 Tbsp lime/lemon juice
For Tadka:
  • 1 Tbsp ghee
  • ½ Tsp jeera
  • 2 chopped green chillies
  • Few curry leaves
  • ½" chopped ginger
  • 10-12 whole black pepper
  • 1 small broken red chilli
Vegetables:
  • 1 diced carrots
  • 5-6 chopped green beans
  • 1 diced small potato
  • ¼ Cup fresh/frozen peas
Method
  1. Wash and soak dalia and mung dal separately for 15-20 mins
  2. Drain water from mung dal, add fresh 1½ Cups water and start to cook
  3. When dal starts cooking drain water from dalia, add 1 more cup of water and start to cook (see notes in recipe card for cooking in pressure cooker)
  4. Cook mung dal and dalia till done
  5. Heat ghee in a pan, add jeera and broken red chilli
  6. Add whole black pepper, green chilli, curry leaves and chopped ginger. Saute
  7. Next add chopped vegetables and peas. Cook till done
  8. Pour cooked mung dal and dalia and mix well
  9. Sprinkle turmeric and salt
  10. Throw in the dollop of butter and mix well
  11. Lastly add grated coconut, chopped coriander and pour in lime juice
  12. Mix well. Serve hot with pudina chutney, yogurt/curd and pickle!
Notes
To cook mung dal and dalia in pressure cooker, drain add 2 Cups water and pressure cook for 5-6 whistles and then mix with tadka OR make tadka pour drained dal, dalia, pressure cook everything together

Adding vegetables is optional, vegetables like cauliflower can also be added
