Cakes and brownies, who does not like them. Brownies can be eaten as a snack or an indulgent dessert served with vanilla ice cream. I have added bananas to this recipe and they give great flavour and moistness to brownies. Using only whole wheat flour will make brownies hard and chewy, I will add a recipe when I try out a good recipe and brownies turn out like brownies.

Recipe type: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Serves: 15 2" brownies
Ingredients
  • ½ Cup sugar
  • 2 medium ripe bananas
  • ¼ Cup diced butter
  • 1½ Cup or 150 Gm milk chocolate or a mix of semi sweet and milk chocolate
  • ¼ Cup hot water
  • 1 Tsp vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients:
  • ¾ Cup refined flour/maida
  • ¼ Cup whole wheat flour
  • ¼ Tsp baking soda
  • 1 Tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
Method
  1. On a double boiler (a bowl set over a pan of simmering water), add chocolate and butter. Let them melt together. When almost melted, lightly mix and set aside to cool
  2. In a mixing bowl, add sugar and banana and mash till bananas mix with the sugar and there are no lumps. Keep aside
  3. When the chocolate mixture has cooled, pour over mashed bananas
  4. Add vanilla extract and water and mix lightly till it all comes together
  5. Sift all dry ingredients together, add the sifted ingredients into the chocolate banana mixture, lightly mix
  6. Scrape the bottom of the bowl but do NOT overmix
  7. In a greased brownie pan or deep roasting pan, (I used 1 inch deep 11 X 7 pan) pour the brownie mixture
  8. Spread evenly and tap to remove any air bubbles
  9. Bake at 180 deg C pre-heated oven for 20-25 minutes. Keep an eye on the brownie. Use a clean toothpick for doneness, it will come out clean when it is done
  10. Let it cool for atleast half an hour. Cut into brownies
  11. Serve it as it is or with vanilla ice cream or hot fudge sauce or caramel sauce
Notes
Do not overmix the batter, brownies will become hard and chewy

Use ripe bananas, they blend well with sugar and brings out the taste of the chocolate

Ensure to pre-heat oven before keeping the brownies to bake

Use only refined flour if you want

Do not overheat the melting chocolate or the cocoa solids will separate out
