Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Nashta/Tindi/Tiffin meaning breakfast has to be a grand affair! ‘Eat breakfast like a king…’ and so on is the mantra here.
But I say eat well, eat in small portions and eat often but do not skip breakfast. Without much ado, let us now look into some breakfast recipes from FOI. From dosas to idlis to pancakes, have breakfasts which are nutritious and tasty. Here’s a compiled breakfast recipes collection
Breakfast Recipes Collection:
Masala Dosa: A favourite dish for most Indians. It is a thin rice-lentil crepe if it is to be explained in Western cuisine words. It has a spicy potato filling and is served with coconut chutney generally. A very similar dish to masala dosa but thicker are these light khaali dosas! A specialty of the Bangalore-Mysore region.
Aloo Paratha: If we have Masala Dosa from South India, popular all over India and the world, we have aloo paratha from North India famous all over this beautiful diverse country. Extremely nutritious and filling, these potato stuffed breads are a favourite breakfast dish. Enjoy some garma garam (hot) aloo parathas
Gojjavalakki/HuLi Avalakki: Spicy and tangy powdered rice flakes mixed with crunchy gram lentils and groundnuts. This super tasty dish is less known, it is a local favourite dish in Karnataka. It is made for breakfast during festivals. One of my favourites too!
Cinnamon Toast: Toasted whole wheat bread is a simple and nice breakfast. But how about turn this humble homemade bread into a tastier one by smearing it with cinnamon butter. Trust me you will never stop making this and will definitely feature quite commonly in your breakfast list
Oats Upma: Oats are an underrated and misunderstood cereal. It is always associated with boring old porridge which by the way can be turned into a super healthy, tasty, interesting oats porridge with toasted nuts. Check out the recipe. How about turning oats into a savoury dish? Oats upma with all the added Indian flavours tastes so good and is so good for you, rich in nutrients and has very high fibre content. This should be an important tool in your breakfast arsenal
Gundupongala/Paddu/Paniyaram: Dosas in idli form or idli in dosa form? They metamorphosize into each other. Crisp on the outside and soft inside with delicious onions. These are again famous from South India less commonly available in hotels/restaurants. So why not let this dish make into your repertoire! Serve this with groundnut chutney!
Steamed Akki Roti: There are a number of types of dosas that feature in this recipes collection. If you are in the mood to make some rotis try these special kind of steamed rice flour rotis. They are so deceivingly tasty they look so humble but believe me they are packed with lots of steamed salty flavour just the kind you need to bring in energy into your day. Perfect with any kind of chutney!
Whole Wheat Pancakes: Soft whole wheat pancakes served with bananas sounds fancy and the kind that are only available in fine dining places? But these are wholesome and very nutritious and are fit for great beginnings to your day. Essentially these are thick dosas served Western style. Rise and shine to these fibrous whole wheat pancakes. Add on any berries you like on top. Talking of berries glug down a glass of berry smoothie just by itself or with these pancakes. Why not add these as well to your breakfast recipes collection
Set Dosa: Coming back to our very own kind of dosas, set dosas. Ooooh! These soft dosas are worth to wait for! Served with mixed veg saagu, these dosas are a delicacy. Super tasty and yum! Also try this lauki/sorekayi dosa from FOI!
Rava Idli: What can I say about these tasty idlis. I know I have not yet posted regular white idlis. Meanwhile try these healthy, tasty, warm rava idlis. Served with chutney and aloo masala, these idlis will make your day beautiful. After this a cup of coffee or tea will do the trick. Now don’t go to sleep after eating these as they are so comforting, get up and go to work! 🙂 I will too 🙂
Haal Kesari: To end this breakfast recipes collection for today let’s do it on a sweet note. Rich fudgy semolina cooked in milk and mixed with ghee roasted dry nuts is an ideal dish when entertaining guests for breakfast! It is also called kesari bhath and is a part of the famous chow chow bhath (khara bhath + kesari bhath). Khara bhath (similar to upma/uppittu). By the way both recipes coming up on FOI.
