Imagine a blustery winter morning and you are craving for something warm and comforting. Our Indian breakfast recipes are the best, idli with sambar, upma, huLi avalakki, ukad etc. But sometimes you can also go for something different and oatmeal is definitely a very healthy option. How about trying to make it more interesting by making this apple cinnamon oatmeal.
Apple cinnamon oatmeal makes regular oats tastier and more attractive. Cinnamon adds a touch of warmth and earthiness. On the other hand, there is sweet juicy apple all chopped up ready to go on top of your oatmeal. I generally add a small blob of butter to enrich my oatmeal and because I love butter!
If you are not on a gluten-free diet, preferably try making this apple cinnamon oatmeal with bran. It increases the fibre and gives a nice texture. In general, it reduces the clumpiness of oatmeal.
Try cinnamon toast, cinnamon rolls from FOI. Also try more oats recipes from FOI, oats upma, apple banana oats smoothie, oatmeal with dry nuts, orange oats brunch bars and more. Do try more apple recipes like apple sauce pancakes, apple gojju etc.
- 1 Cup oats with bran*
- 2½ Cups whole milk
- ½ Tbsp butter
- Cinnamon powder to sprinkle
- 1 Cup chopped apple
- Honey to drizzle on top
- Heat milk on low flame till it just scalds (just before boiling)
- Add butter and mix well, butter melts
- Slowly sprinkle oats and mix well
- Keep stirring on low flame till the oatmeal thickens
- Oatmeal is now ready
- To serve, spoon prepared porridge into glass bowls or glass jars, sprinkle powdered cinnamon on top
- Place chopped apple, this is the first layer
- Repeat, spoon some porridge, sprinkle cinnamon powder, add chopped apple
- Drizzle with honey on top
- Enjoy the comforting goodness on a winter morning!
You can also make this vegan, skip butter and honey, and use a plant based milk/vegan milk
*To keep it gluten free, use pure oats, check packaging to see if it is suitable for gluten-free consumption
