Steamed breakfasts are always the healthiest option. Akki tari idli is made from cream of rice (rice rava), the same variety used to make idli rava idlis. These are masala akki tari idli with pop-in-the-mouth corn and peas.
Akki tari idli is made by making a upma/uppittu with this rice rava and then steamed into idlis. It takes no time at all to make these steamed dumplings. These can be steamed either in an idli maker or a cooker or a double boiler.
I generally serve these with masala curd/yogurt to get a break from coconut chutney. The hot steaming idlis taste delicious with the cool masala yogurt. To make the masala yogurt I mix yogurt, a pinch each of turmeric, red chilli powder and a tadka of mustard, dry red chilli and hing is added. Nice and simple!
