A spicy mouth-watering gojju is always a welcome change from regular saaru or sambar. That is the reason a spicy gojju dish is a must on the menu for a festival or function. Gojjus cleanse the palate and aid in digestion as they have a good balance of all flavours. Take for instance this orange peels gojju, very flavourful, bitter, sour, spicy and sweet all at the same time.
Orange peels gojju along with haagalkayi gojju is one of my favourite gojjus. If you happen to buy organic oranges do try this orange peel gojju, no waste but extra taste 🙂 This orange peel gojju can be eaten with steamed hot white rice. This is also called orange pachadi and is famous in many parts of South India especially in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. ... “Orange Peel Gojju | Orange Gojju | Gojju Recipes”

Aromatic, fresh, authentic Mysore style homemade sambar powder
09/25/2017 9:26:18 PM vindhyadesai
I am sure everybody agrees that fresh homemade masalas and powders cannot be replaced! Basic powders like saarina pudi/rasam powder and sambar powder are essential to a South Indian cook. They come in so handy. The aroma of homemade sambar powder is the measure of how good your sambar/huLi turns out to be.
Generally all ingredients are dry roasted individually and slowly in heated heavy pans/kadais. But here I have given a simple and easy method all done at once. Moreover it is for a small quantity measure making it simple to handle masala ingredients. This will also ensure your sambar powder is fresh. ... “Sambar Powder | Sambar Pudi | Homemade HuLi Pudi”
Flavourful, fragrant and filling, methi matar paneer pulao
07/29/2017 9:45:22 PM vindhyadesai
Pulaos and bhaat are my favourite items to pack for lunch box. Ideal to just heat up and eat without any mess. Being made of rice I generally restrict this affair to once a week. Not that we do not consume rice but it’s mostly in the form of curd rice (done! stamped! my absolute fav!). This methi matar paneer pulao is special and I make it once in a while.
An easy one-pot rice dish from FOI once again. It has fragrant whole garam masala making it extremely flavourful. This methi matar paneer pulao has not 1 not 2 but 3 protagonists as is apparent from the name of the dish! ... “Methi Matar Paneer Pulao | Paneer Recipes | Pulao Recipes”
Spicy radish chutney, a different kind of chutney as side dish for dosa/idli or steamed rice
07/22/2017 1:01:28 PM vindhyadesai
Chutneys are a a very important side dish in South Indian cuisine. Any kind of chutney cleanses the palate and activates the taste buds. Radish is an under-appreciated vegetable. They are very good for health and are loaded with nutrients. This radish chutney hides radish from you and you will not know there’s radish in it.
This is a very flavourful and spicy chutney and makes a very good side dish for steamed rice or chapathis.I have learnt a version of this chutney from my MIL. She sautes the ground chutney again after grinding before adding the tadka. ... “Moolangi Chutney | Radish Chutney | Chutney Recipes”

A few years ago when I was studying I had a friend in college from Mangalore. She used to bring cabbage dosa for her tiffin and I used to love it. She even got the recipe from her mom and shared it with me by word of mouth.
I had forgotten all about this recipe until one day when I had a big cabbage and I could not think of recipes to make out of it. So when life gives you cabbages make cabbage dosa, er! eh! 🙂 ... “Cabbage Dosa | Breakfast Recipes | Dosa Recipes”
Flavourful and tasty, pack for your lunch box – special menthya soppina bhaat
05/13/2017 10:11:34 PM vindhyadesai
Any rice bhaat or pulao made with fresh homemade masala is very flavourful. Years ago when I was learning cooking and experimenting with recipes I developed this masala for menthya soppina bhaat. The most important thing I learnt while making this masala was that toor dal enhances and actually brings out the taste of methi leaves/menthya soppu.
I can easily say this is my favourite bhaat of all time. It is so flavourful and aromatic without using a lot of strong spices. Light subtle spices along with desi ghee make this menthya soppina bhaat sing and dance with glory 🙂 ... “Menthya Soppina Bhaat | Methi Bhaat | Bhaat Recipes”
Mildly spicy, an easy alternative to coconut chutney, tender methi stems chutney

Any edible part of a vegetable or greens should not be wasted. They have a whole lot of nutrients. It is appalling to see many vegetables simple being thrown away. Try and use as many parts of a vegetable provided those parts are edible. Tender methi stems chutney is one such dish which can easily be made.
Obviously with tender methi stems chutney, you have to make sure they are clean, washed and really tender and not bitter. And there you have an easy side dish for idli/dosa. And there you have it, a nice and flavourful chutney! ... “Methi Stems Chutney | Menthe Detina Chutney | Chutney Recipes”

This recipe was one of the first ones I photoshot. Then, I photoshot it again. And again! But now finally after being in drafts for almost a year now, I am posting idli recipe. I know this is a basic recipe. Every food blog has a nice recipe for idli. So here you go, my version of idli using idli rava (actually my mom’s)
These idlis turn out to very soft and is quite simple in terms of batter preparation. Idli using idli rava does require fermentation but it is worth the effort. Idli apparently is recognized as one of the healthiest food items by W.H.O. And why not? It has practically no oil, it has proteins and carbohydrates.
