Nutritious, healthy and tasty mung usli or hesarukaalu usli/sundal
Ingredients
  • ½ Cup mung beans/hesarukaalu
  • ¼ Cup groundnuts
  • ½ Tbsp oil
  • ½ Tsp mustard
  • ¼ Tsp jeera
  • A pinch of hing/asafoetida
  • 2 chopped green chillies
  • Few curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ Cup freshly grated coconut
  • Chopped coriander
  • Juice of half a lime/lemon
Method
  1. Take the mung beans in a bowl. Rinse with water twice and discard it
  2. Add 2 Cups fresh water and bring to a simmering boil
  3. Once the mung beans are half cooked, add groundnuts. Add little more water if required
  4. While mung and groundnuts are cooking, make tadka with oil, mustard and jeera
  5. Add green chillies and curry leaves and fry for a few seconds
  6. To the cooked mung add salt to taste and freshly grated coconut. Mix well
  7. Next pour the tadka and mix well
  8. Add chopped coriander
  9. Squeeze in lime or lemon juice. Give a quick mix and let it steam for a minute or so
  10. Serve with freshly grated coconut on top
Notes
When making tadka add chopped onions if you want and saute till onions turn soft

Reduce grated coconut by half if you want

Mung and groundnuts can be cooked in pressure cooker as well for 3-4 whistles
