Serves: 2-3 people
- 1½ Cup thin or medium avalakki/poha/flattened rice
- 1 Cup yogurt/curd + extra as required
- Salt to taste
- Water to wash and soak avalakki/poha/flattened rice
- 2 Tsp oil
- ½ Tsp mustard
- ¼ Tsp jeera
- 1 pinch hing
- 5-6 curry leaves
- 1 Tsp uddina bele/urad dal
- 1 Tsp kadale bele/chana dal
- ½ finely chopped green chilli
- ½ broken red chilli
- ¼ Cup groundnuts
- Chopped coriander
- In a bowl, take the poha
- Pour some water till it is covered, rinse and discard the water, repeat once more
- Now add little water and the poha soak in water
- When it is soaking let's make tadka, heat oil in a small pan
- Add mustard and jeera and let it splutter
- Sprinkle a pinch of hing
- Next keep chilli, curry leaves, urad and chana dal in a plate together
- Add this to the tadka along with a broken red chilli and fry
- When dals turn crisp and golden, add groundnuts and fry
- After the groundnuts turn crisp and are fried well, add chopped coriander and fry, keep aside
- To soaked poha, add salt to taste
- Next add yogurt/curd to the soaked poha, mix very well
- Add tadka and mix well
- Adjust consistency by adding more yogurt/curd
- Serve fresh!
Ensure the yogurt/curd is sweet and not sour
You can also add some milk to adjust consistency and mellow the flavour of yogurt/curd a bit
Skip all tadka ingredients if you want, just mustard tadka will also be nice or even plain
